Gore said the signatures demonstrate "that hundreds of thousands of people share my sense of urgency" on climate change. Gore is scheduled to testify before Congress about the issue Wednesday.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Madison utility is planning to expand its renewable energy pricing program. Madison Gas and Electric says its responding to growing concern about global warming in tripling the size of the program. The green power program allows customers to pay extra on their monthly electric bill to support development of renewable energy sources -- like wind turbines and solar panels. The utility has new wind power projects coming on line early next year, which will triple the amount of green power available to customers who pay extra.

By 2015, its majority owner, New Jersey-based NRG Energy, hopes to at least double that capacity if it gets permission to build two more reactors on the site.
