Bali rainbow

This week, the nations of the world gather in Bali to frame a global treaty on global warming to follow the Kyoto protocol, when it expires in 2012. The following prayer is offered in the hope of their success.

Oh Lord, Oh Mother Earth, help us! Help us as the family of nations gathers in Bali. Help us to find the wisdom and love to work together to stop polluting our planet. Help us to save our beautiful home in the universe. Help us protect all our peoples from the scourge of storms, droughts, floods, disease and famine. Give us the strength and will power to unite together to find agreement and accommodation. Help the rich to hold in mind the image of the poorest family, struggling for existence, and know that unless a new treaty helps them, it will not work. Help the poor to help the rich stem their greed, and to understand that more material possessions can never bring them the happiness that will come from leaving fresh air, clean oceans, plentiful water and strong communities to our children. Help us all go together up the path of reason and comity and end this threat that we have foolishly brought upon ourselves. Help us now to abjure poses and politics, conniving and strategizing. Help us open our hearts to each other, speak honestly and act bravely. For now is the time, amen
